This literature review presents an examination of the impact of socioeconomic conditions on prevalence of infectious diseases and poliomyelitis, which has had a history of having been responsible for enormous suffering in all parts of the world, is especially considered in the review. I hereby certify that, except where cited in the text, this work is the result of the research carried out by the author of this study. The main content of the study which has been presented contains work that has not previously been reported anywhere. This write-up is submitted in fulfilment for the requirements related to a full literature review for The Association of Socio – Economic Conditions to Infectious Diseases with Emphasis on Poliomyelitis. Infectious diseases arise as a result of the constant and ongoing conflict between the microbial world, consisting of bacteria and viruses etc and the living physiology of humans or animals (Waldvogel, 2004, Pp. 5 -10). Although the variety of organisms that belong to the microbial world is said to be immense, with about two to three billion species existing on the planet earth, microbial organisms that have adapted to humans and also possibly other mammals is said to be extremely limited, with the total number not exceeding a thousand pathogens.
